Biodegradable Food Packaging

Increasing food waste has become a major societal problem The cost of wasted food is enormous, and it also compromises food security and public health. The use of efficient  biodegradable food packaging  can help reduce the waste and spoilage of fresh food. According to Dr. Philip Democritus, an adjunct professor of environmental health and director of the Nanotechnology and Nanotoxicology Center at Harvard University, using such packaging may help reduce the amount of fresh and processed food waste. A  biodegradable food packaging  is made from paper-based materials, such as cardboard, or plastic substitutes. One of the most popular materials is polylactic acid (PLA), derived from corn starch or sugarcane.
